How to display your Instagram feed on PrestaShop in 2026 (without pulling your hair out)

How to display your Instagram feed on PrestaShop in 2026 (without pulling your hair out)

Integrating an Instagram feed into an online store is an excellent way to create social proof and humanize your brand. However, for PrestaShop merchants, this seemingly simple task has become a real technical challenge.

The End of the Instagram Basic Display API

Since Meta deprecated its “Basic Display” API, it is no longer possible to publicly and easily retrieve photos from an account. Today, the official API systematically requires owning a Professional or Creator Instagram account, linking it to a Facebook page, creating an application on the developer portal, and generating access tokens that expire regularly.

For an independent e-merchant or a small business that simply wants to display its 5 latest photos on the homepage, this process is excessive. In addition, the old free scraping methods using direct requests are now blocked by Instagram’s anti-bot protections.

A Pragmatic and Sustainable Alternative

As web developers, our goal is to provide solutions that save time. The most reliable solution in 2026 is to delegate data extraction to a specialized third-party API capable of bypassing restrictions without requiring a Meta login or developer account, which can sometimes take a long time to configure.

That is why we chose to use the public RapidAPI network. By creating a free account on this platform, merchants obtain a unique key that allows them to publicly query any Instagram profile. The free limit of 1000 requests per month is more than sufficient when combined with a proper server-side caching system.

The InstaPics Module for PrestaShop 1.7, 8 and 9

To meet this need for efficiency, we developed the InstaPics module. Designed to focus on simplicity, it avoids the usual overly complex setups. You simply enter your Instagram username and your RapidAPI key, and the module takes care of the rest.

To ensure the free API quotas are never exceeded, the module stores the response in the native PrestaShop cache for 6 hours. This represents a maximum of 120 monthly requests, guaranteeing a 100% free service and instant loading times for your customers. On the design side, the layout is based on a modern CSS Flexbox grid, dynamically adapting the display from desktop format (5 images) to mobile format (2 images), while respecting Instagram’s iconic 4:5 vertical ratio.
